Global Warming and the Subtle Energy Field

By Linda Negrin, Assoc. Certified Pranic Healer, and Wendie Colter, MCWC, CMIP

We are living in an era that scientists have named the Anthropocene – the most recent period in Earth's history when human activity began to have a significant impact on the planet's climate and ecosystems.

This epoch is thought to have begun in the 1800s with the Industrial Revolution and the burning of fossil fuels, to the atomic bombs of the mid-1900’s, and continues to the present day with the pollution of plastics into our oceans, and more. Scientific data shows that human activities have warmed Earth’s surface and ocean basins, impacting the planet’s climate. Earth has been deeply wounded over and over again by humanity’s destructive behaviors, and we are experiencing the consequences of this imbalance in our world.

Although the scientific perspective is clear, it only encompasses the physical symptoms. What about the underlying energetic causes? Is it possible that a population of nearly 8 billion people experiencing distressed mental and emotional energies could create a powerful energetic field that manifests itself, in part, as a rise in global temperature?

Although this idea may seem far-fetched, it is consistent with the traditions, principles and practices of subtle energy healing and biofield science.

The Subtle Energy Field and Health

In the early 1990’s, a panel of researchers and energy healing arts practitioners at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) coined the word “biofield” to describe a field of energy and information that surrounds, permeates and influences the human body.

The biofield, also known as the “subtle energy field,” can be understood as containing both dense energy, similar to the electromagnetic fields generated by the heart and brain and measured by electroencephalograms and electrocardiograms, and extremely subtle energy fields used in energy healing practices.

Biofield practitioners are trained to assess the subtle energy field of the human body to discern energetic imbalances and blockages, which can manifest as experiences of disease and illness in the physical body.

Many healing traditions believe that subtle energy, emotions, and physical health are inextricably linked. Modern science agrees:

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine associates emotions with specific organs, such as anger with the liver, fear with the kidneys, and grief with the heart and lungs.  Emotional stress is regarded to contribute significantly to physical illness by disrupting the flow of vital life force energy, or qi.

  • According to Pranic Healing®, "the energy body acts as a mold or pattern for the visible physical body. If the energy body is defective, then the visible physical body is defective. They are so closely related that what affects one affects the other."

  • HeartMath® Institute researchers report that people’s thoughts, attitudes and emotions emit energetic fields that not only affect our own health, but also have positive or negative psychophysiological consequences on others in our environments and throughout the world. Conversely, “Attitudes of coherent genuine love, appreciation, care and compassion change a field environment – both locally … and throughout the world.”

  • Psychoneuroimmunology is the study of the interactions between the mind, the nervous system and the immune system, as well as the science behind how stress and negative emotions can have a negative impact on our health and well-being.

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACES, have been studied extensively for decades by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Research has shown a direct correlation between early life trauma events and later life health consequences.

Anger and Our Planet

If angry thoughts, words, and actions can have a damaging effect on the health of our own bodies, our personal energy fields, and the energy fields of people around us, we can expand that outward to include these effects on all of humanity, and on the entire planet itself.

Using the principles of subtle energy practices as our model, if we consider planet Earth as a living being similar to the human body with its own geophysiology and subtle energy field, we can begin to comprehend how humanity's collective energetic field affects our world profoundly.

Similar to human health imbalances, Earth’s respiratory system is highly compromised and unhealthy (pollution in the air we breathe), her circulatory systems are unbalanced and flowing poorly (dirty rivers, heating oceans, turbulent air currents), and she is obviously running a very high “fever.”

Could global warming be an energetic manifestation of humanity’s anger?

Anger as a Catalyst

You don’t have to be a biofield practitioner, or even consider yourself to be on a spiritual path, to understand how you feel when you are angry versus when you feel joy. Anger feels “hot.” It drives people to act out, yell, and even to destroy things. Our face may turn red with rage. When we encounter someone who is furious, we may encourage them to “cool down” or “chill out.” The stress chemicals of anger can trigger metabolic changes, causing harm to many systems of the body, including the brain, cardiovascular, digestive, and immune systems.

It’s not hard to see that anger is a predominant emotion on the planet right now, particularly in the wake of the global pandemic and wars that continue to rage. We have seen bias, bigotry, intolerance, hatred, greed, and cruelty, along with a rise in violence and authoritarianism all around the world.

This isn't a new phenomenon in the human psyche; people have long felt territorial and hostile towards one another. But perhaps these damaging energies have been growing as the fear and uncertainty of humanity’s ultimate survival looms.

Denial is Not an Option

Of course, we can’t deny our feelings. Emotional denial has caused its own level of imbalance both on the personal and global scale. Although more is certainly needed, there is a greater level of awareness and opportunity for emotional and mental healthcare support now than perhaps ever before.

Health and wellness practitioners are keenly attuned to the positive effects that kindness, compassion and generosity may have on our own and others’ wellbeing.

Which brings us to the ultimate question: Can humanity create and sustain a positive energetic impact on global warming?

Creating a Positive Impact

When anger is triggered, it can provide an opportunity for insight and understanding. Anger can motivate us to take action to correct situations that may be causing damage. Given the many angering actions that people engage in, such as abusing others, engaging in war, stealing power, and so on, it is natural to feel angry when we see harm being inflicted on fellow beings.

However, it’s imperative that we use that flash of anger to motivate us, rather than stew in the madness and generate more energetic “heat.” We can learn to release anger in a healthy way, and then allow ourselves to take action from a place of love and a willingness to do good.

This may not be an easy task, but it is within every person’s ability. Resolving anger is often not a one-and-done event – it is an ongoing, daily practice. The goal is to practice focused techniques to cool down when we are upset, as well as gentle, effective ways to address things that trigger us.

Here are some suggestions to help shift your energy from angry to calm:

  • Practice saying “Stop” to yourself when you are in the midst of a tumultuous situation. Then take a few seconds for three deep breaths before responding.

  • Call a Time Out: If you find yourself becoming frustrated and angry when interacting with others, call for a Time Out. Agree to walk away at that moment, and also to come back to the situation later after everyone has had a chance to get calm.

  • Vigorous physical activities, such as running, dancing, kickboxing, and brisk walking, can be healthy ways to engage the whole body and release not only pent-up emotional and physical energy, but also subtle energy buildup.

  • Meditation on Twin Hearts is a Pranic Healing® guided meditation designed to cleanse and clear the energy field, while blessing all beings and Mother Earth with the energies of love and peace.

  • Perform random acts of kindness. When you find yourself digging in your heels, take a moment to consider what the kindest solution might be. Kindness towards others is not only good for your sense of overall happiness, it’s also good for your mental wellbeing.

  • Practice “energy hygiene” tools, including grounding, shielding and releasing energy to help support our emotional balance. These useful subtle energy tools can quickly shift our energy field.

Practicing Peace

Biofield practitioners are continually cleaning, balancing, and refining our individual subtle energy fields. We recognize that in order to create the change we want to see in the world, we must first change within ourselves. It takes a commitment to live each day with awareness, mindfulness, and a willingness to take simple actions designed to support our minds and our bodies.

We invite you to consider creating a kind, loving, and calm space within your own energy field to bring down the energetic “temperature.” In doing so, we may be able to help Mother Earth’s temperature cool down as well.
