On-The-Fly Energy Adjusters

“To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan and not quite enough time.” ―Leonard Bernstein

Stress. Burnout. Compassion fatigue. Even with the best of intentions and personal coping strategies, life can sometimes tip the balance towards overload.

Countless studies have been done on the potential harms that even a small amount of regular stress can do to the body, mind and emotions.

Thousands of articles have been written that reference the negative effect of burnout on nurses, doctors and healthcare providers, the toll of inefficient corporate structures in the workplace, the inherent stresses of parenting, the pressure kids are under to achieve… and on and on.

Clearly, everyone needs effective ways to cope with stress!

Meditation, exercise and time spent in nature are all great for mental, physical and emotional stress reduction. But I find that also having some simple “energy adjusters” that I can use on-the-fly, does the job in releasing stress in the moment and helps keep my energy focused and on-point. The best part is that they only take a few moments to use.

My Favorite Energy Adjusters

Grounding: The very first thing I do when I get out of bed in the morning is “ground” my energy. I like to use the image of tree roots growing from the bottoms of my feet straight down into the earth.

Grounding creates a direct energetic connection between our bodies and the energy of the earth, which can have a stabilizing affect on the mind and body. I check my grounding every so often and re-ground as needed.

One great use of grounding is to deliberately send any tension, stress or anxiety right down my grounding roots into the earth. I imagine the earth absorbing and neutralizing this released energy, which has an immediate effect of calming my body and clearing my mind.

Releasing: The second energy adjuster I like to use is the image of a large soap bubble. This soap bubble can be filled with any unwanted emotions - worries, concerns, frustrations, anger, etc.

In my mind’s eye, I imagine a lovely rainbow-colored soap bubble that can absorb any emotions I choose. When it’s completely full, I imagine a “whoosh” of air sending it high up into the sky, where it pops and dissolves into golden sparkles. This may sound silly, but I find that it really works!

Of course, we also want to be able to understand and process the deeper meaning of our emotions and anxieties. Interestingly, when I adjust my energy using these techniques, I find I have more perspective and awareness on the things that threw me “off balance” in the first place. Give it a try and see if these on-the-fly energy adjusters can work for you!

Until next time - stay inspired!

Warmly,
Wendie
